[She] is sewing away like a streak and singing “Old Dog Tray.” She can go to any part of South Brooklyn alone, is very “Apt.” We have made up a whole piece of Muslin over 30 yds— David Ketcham and family are going to Toledo as soon as navigation opens. We conclude to stay here. Samuel went house hunting [for] two days, then very [quickly] made up his mind [about the] Landlord promising to get a good [house?]. Hellen went to Billi[e’s] [with] her sister [and] Cousin Eliza Jacob [but] cannot think of any more news. [Lizzie] has [her] hat and shawl on to [go to the] Post Office, [she] turns to me it is something [about] to go to Cousin Jesse’s to stay. What does it mean? I wish you would come down very much indeed. Our love to you all [and] do come. Most affectionately [your] sister, Anna Ask Hannah if we [shall see] her this spring? Samuel’s uncle [redacted] was buried last Monday. died very suddenly. Please write soon. A [Postscript at bottom right:] Kiss Phebe Phebe P. S. [?] Other Notes Letter originated from Brooklyn, New York but the postage mark is New Jersey City, New Jersey - we are left to surmise that letter was sent in Brooklyn but was processed in New Jersey City for delivery The difference in the time the letter was written and the postmark date leads us to believe that the envelope may not be the original envelope that the letter was sent in. Written in March 1855 but postmarked Nov 1855. The only other explanation is that Phebe held on to this letter for 8 months before she put it in the mail to be delivered
