Monroe Post office Stephen H. Bull Blooming Grove, Orange County, New York [Postmark: NEW-YORK SEP 17] [Notation: Single E. Collins] My Dear Friends, Stephen & Betsey - New York 9mo-16th-1841- And still another hard lesson in the school of affliction, Dear Mary is no more;- at 20 minutes before 7 O'clock this morning she breathed her last, under a full assurance of a happy immortality- She was much distressed for breath through the Night, her cough lessened, and she was too weak to raise, consequently her Lungs filled up and she ceased to breath - Her amiable disposition, and constant care to have every thing pleasant in the Family, endeared her most closely to us - Oh! may our Heavenly Father be pleased to spare the little remnant of my dear Family, yet remaining, to be the solace of my declineing years - Hannah has been quite unwell with a cold, and cough, for 2 or 3 weeks past, but is now some better, I do think, if my Daughters could spend a few days at your house, under your care, that they would soon regain their usual health,- I have no wish to be burthenso- put a burthen on you at all, but if it should be convenient for you to take care of them for a few days, I should esteem it a great favour - I will endeavour to write again, in the course of a few days, and let you know how Hannah gets along - George is as comfortable as can be expected under all circumstances. We have had a very trying time through the Spring & Summer- not a day has passed, (since you left this City,) without sickness in my Family - we recieved a letter from Samuel this morning, his health is good - Samuel has taken unto himself a Wife. she is a young woman of a good education, and most amiable disposition, & pleasing in her manners - I am so well pleased with her, that the only objection in my mind was, that she was not a Member of our society - on the receipt of this letter, you will please write a few lines and let us know whether you expect to leave home, and when it would be convenient for you to extend a little care over Hannah & Caroline - My children unite with me in love to you - Your affectionate friend Ezra Collins The funeral of My Daughter Mary will take place tomorrow afternoon at 4 O'clock - our love to your Father & Mother, Brothers & Sisters &c. &c. - We have had so little rest for 3 or 4 weeks past, that I feel poorly able to write more at this time - Stephen H. Bull & Wife E.C. Please put a line in the Post Office
