HUNT, HILL & BETTS Counsellors at Law—Proctors in Admiralty Equitable Building 120 Broadway New York, 507 W. 124 St., 9/10/22. Dear Lillian, Many thanks for the attractive card you sent me from Venice. I am using it as a bookmark — sometime I shall hope for the good fortune of a quiet hour. I trust your trip — you were certainly missed in America — I am especially sorry not see you this month as interest will begin to run after the 30th on the unpaid balance of the purchase money mortgage and I could not have every possible detail by that date and there are some things about the Middleton purchase I’d like talk over with you — undoubtedly your official duties are about all you ought to undertake, yet maybe a chance or two for the bank run, after now and then. I made the following subscription collections: Jane D. Mills — 20. Edgar C. McWilliams — 2. John S. Bull, 17 Little Av. — 4. Mrs. N. D. Gould — 5. Mrs. Geo. Keaton — 5. Lindon Bull — 10. Cam Thompson filly — $100. Fairfax Stn. Ralph G. Matthews I learned that the C.B. group of your state are not descendants, nor the John G. Peebles, 124 W. Main St. Mrs. D.C. McDonough and Mrs. Williams (the father) declined — Mrs. R.L. Walstead of 90 Kinley Ave., daughter of Mrs. W.J. Becker, told me one day after the picnic they were in motion that she wanted to give something merely wanted to know treasurer’s name & address. I gave her same, but she may let the month slip by & forget; so if possible get her check. Mrs. Irene Dunning — sister of Mrs. B.F. Todd, 52 Linden Ave. where she is stopping — her husband is temporarily preaching in Goshen and they may soon be out of the jurisdiction — she says she “ought to do something” and I think a little push from you might do the trick — By the way, a third sister Mrs. Willcutt — now in Washington, D.C., who happened to be there when I called, said she had already made a subscription which she had given her sister Mrs. Todd to give you — Mrs. Todd also said she had given it to you — Do you recall it? Mrs. Todd herself said she wanted to give but she is apparently hard up — Buccini Cristi of the Times-Press — I saw him and he is interested but I did not get yes or no on the money question — his sister Mrs. Jamison? and Bush, college boy — 25 from — I should not wonder if you could get him also this time. I understand her winter address is in Nash D.C. If you could get in touch with her — I believe she’d give — “Mrs. Ella Bull Bruere” — she said she could not afford to give as her husband is a paralytic. But her brother John J. Bull — I got letters from his daughter “Mrs. Southwell” — said she could afford a little if she would — Perhaps you could run — see her, especially as her name was erroneously put down as a giver! (of course don’t mention that her brother niece said) — By the way, John J. Bull and the Southwells invited me to dinner and wine very nice indeed — Mrs. was Sara Norris Bull — who gave 5 last year. I asked her if she knew you and she said by sight only — I told her — she should know you well — and when she next met you — should kiss you on both cheeks — but she feared they would think her so! I got 25 from Howard Frost, Los Angeles — with what I had at the Pacific and home pledges since, have turned over — rather than 800. I mean money other treasurers not including the Nannie Check. — That is this year I mean — This evening I have written seven letters to people — we may just need this one more reminder. — Of course I cannot keep up such an effort — but I do want to see in everything possible this month. — Ever yours, Robert. — HILL & BETTS ROOM 3111 120 BROADWAY NEW YORK (Stamped) PRIVATE STAMP SEP 1 10:30 AM 1922 Addressed to: Miss Lillian Bull 47 Grant Ave. Middletown N.Y.
