Respected Cousin
I am about to trouble you with another letter we are usually well Mother is quite comfortable I think her prospects of life are rather brighter than they have been for a year or more—I suppose Mother is entitled to a pension on account of Father's connection with the Revolutionary Army I should like to know whether Selah Strong of Blooming Grove is still
living or Shadrac Cooper or any of the older members of the Brewster Family. If Shadrac Cooper is living, to find whether his Uncle William Cooper, or Uncle Britt of Fishkill Dutchess Co.— or any of my Father's early associates there are living. If they are, and there is a prospect of making out sufficient testimony of Fathers connection with the Army. I must make a Journey to Orange & Dutchess, Also of Mothers Marriage; she recollects William Sackett was present at her wedding he lived a few years ago at the Ottekill "now if I could get suitable certificates without coming both of his connection with the army & of the Marriage to him without a Journey either by you or Cousin Samuel Bull or any suitable person I would satisfy them for the trouble & experience—Father was engaged in the Army as teamster sent by one or both of his Uncles with their teams, went as substitute for one or both of them one or more tours from Fishkill for four months on his own account after he was old enough to go on account of his age & ability/But whether this four months service was performed while living in Fishkill before he went to live at Blooming Grove with his Uncle Minard Cooper or while living there, neither Mother or Myself can recollect, He told of Marching & encamping on the battle ground of Saratoga but I think It was done takes perhaps some months after the battle
If you can glean any information by the way of passing in these neighborhoods in the Course of a Month It will answer, I wish if possible to get the documents of Evidence ready by the middle of November to send to Washington, by our Congressman Judge Ellsworth who will take charge of them willingly and represent her at the Pension Office—I send you a copy of the instructions & law of 1838 relating to the Pensions of Widows of revolutionary officers & soldiers that you may see that positive proof of service will do—
though we should give evidence of as much time or as many tours of service as we can—Mother sends respects to all, especially yourself & Family your Fathers uncle Richard & Cousin Samuel Bull & Families Uncle Isaac & Family—The this document was sent me from Washington for my instruction, please return It in your next letter—If none of the persons at Blooming Grove or Fishkill I have mentioned are living, still there may be others aged persons who may recollect my Father & the circumstances of his service
Mother thinks as Uncle Crisse Bull learned his trade of Father he may recollect whether he spoke of serving while he lived in Blooming Grove or no.
Your Friend & Cousin
Ebenezer Bull— Mynard Bush
P. S. I send you the last law passed by Congress
on the Subject—Though there were laws passed
in 1836, 1837. & I believe one as early as 1832
the laws & instructions of the 36 & 37 were also sent
me but are not necessary to be referred to
