________________________________________
The original Bull homestead in Orange County at Hamptonburgh which William Bull built in 1727 for his wife, Sarah Wells. One of the walls was cracked by an earthquake in that year. There is a spring in the cellar and evidence that its builder had in mind the possibility of difficulties with Indians. The homestead was purchased by the Bull Family Association the later Ebenezer Bull whose widow still lives there. It will eventually become a family museum. Sarah Wells, according
to tradition, "was the first civilized white woman who placed foot on that part of the patent of Wawayanda which laid in the town of Goshen." Her marriage to William Bull is traditionally the first one within the limits of the old town of Goshen. William Bull built many houses in this area including the one in which Hamlet Roe lives at Craigville and Knox headquarters near Newburgh.
General Knox headquarters near Newburgh, one of the numerous spots in Orange County associated with Revolutionary War history.
