GRAND OLD LADY of the Bull family is Mrs. Charles Wells, 94,
of Newburgh, who was Sarah Wells Bull before her marriage.
Among the many members of the family greeting her at the annual
family picnic Saturday was Robert McLeod Jackson, secretary of
the board of managers.

"BOUNCING THE BABY" on the newel post of the 250 year old
Bull Stone house is a traditional family custom which initiates
descendants of Sarah Wells and William Bull as "real" members
of the family. Mrs. James H. Sorrell of Middletown does the
honors for her son, James Allen, who was born June 15, 1959. He
was the second youngest baby at the picnic, allowing first honors
to a lady, born June 26, Amy Coulter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
William Coulter of Washingtonville.

Perfect picnic weather Saturday found 239 members of the
William Bull and Sarah Wells family registered for the 92nd annual
picnic at the 1722 Bull Stone House.
At an outdoor meeting after lunch Henry P. Bull of Middletown
was re-elected treasurer and Robert McLeod Jackson of Campbell
Hall secretary of the association. Mrs. Harriet Hunter of Oxford
Depot was elected to succeed Mrs. Margaret McClung Wilcox,
whose term expired.
President Charles Beattie Thompson presented blue ribbons to
Alton A. Nance, Houston, Texas, who came the greatest distance,
to 2-month old Amy Coulter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William
Coulter of Washingtonville, as the youngest; and to Mrs. Charles
Wells, who was born Sarah Wells Bull, as the oldest member present. She is 94.
Family genealogist Miss Dolly W. Booth of Monroe reported
she is continuing the task of unifying the family record. Members
gave a vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Brown, who are the
year round resident managers of the old Stone House off the Sarah
Wells Trail.
