108th Reunion For Bull Family
HAMPTONBURGH - Bull families of the area and
United States will exhibit Bull-made quilts and coverlets
at the 108th Bull Family picnic that will be preceded by the
annual meeting, Saturday, beginning mid-morning, at the
well-known Bull Homestead, Hamptonburgh.
Also, there will be a showing of the Orange County
Bicentennial quilt. Michael Brown, Hamptonburgh, residing at the 252-
year-old Bull stone house, reports that William Bull Cocks, 90, named citizen-of-the-year from Cornwall, will receive special recognition.
Other members of the Bull family also will be recognized
and awarded special ribbons to the youngest person
present, oldest, traveling the greatest distance, and to those
who have been faithful in attendance at the annual
event that takes place always on the fourth Saturday in August.
Dr. Fred Bement, administrator at Pine Bush Central School District, will
give a short talk. Mrs. Amy Bull Crist, Stony Ford, retired
superintendent of Orange County Schools, will tell of
Bicentennial preparations set for next year, which will include the
wearing of period costumes. Mrs. Crist's sister,
Mrs. Louis Brown, Montgomery, will be on hand for
the event. Henry P. Bull, attorney, 12 Robert street, Middletown,
will give a financial report. The history and story of the
Bull people begins with William Bull who built the
present Bull Family Stone House in 1722 with his own
hands. It still stands. From the union of William Bull and
Sarah Wells came 12 children, five boys and seven girls. At
Sarah death in 1796, there were 98 grandchildren, great-
great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grand children
