Executive Summary: Town of Hamptonburgh Board Meeting
At its meeting on Tuesday, April 13, 1999, the Hamptonburgh Town Board approved several local measures, infrastructure updates, and administrative requests.
Key Approvals & Decisions
Official Town Logo: The Board approved a new official town logo designed by Town Historian John Gramm. The logo features the Bull Stone House (built in 1722).
Cell Tower Approval: By a 3-to-2 vote, the Board approved a cell phone tower proposed for the County Park. Designed as a rustic, dual-purpose light and cell tower, it will stand 20 feet or more higher than surrounding light poles to address local dead zones.
Polling Sites (1999): The Board designated official polling sites for the upcoming year across five districts, utilizing the Town Hall Meeting Room and the Town Hall Community Room.
New Road Name: The road for the Windy Ridge Subdivision was officially named "Lincolndale Road".
Local Law No. 1 of 1999: Following a public hearing, the Board passed a law to recodify local laws, ordinances, and resolutions into a single "Code of the Town of Hamptonburgh".
Community & Infrastructure Concerns
Day Road Bridge: Residents of Day Road protested rebuilding the Day Road Bridge (closed since 1987 due to lack of funds, though state and federal funds are now available). Fearing increased traffic near local homes, some residents requested the road be permanently closed or made into a cul-de-sac. The Board put the project on hold to review it further, scheduling a special meeting for Thursday, April 22nd.
New Housing & Water Safety: Burnside-area residents raised concerns that six proposed new houses in the area could deplete the local water table and cause existing wells to dry up. They were advised to bring the issue before the Town Planning Board.
Bulk Trash Pickup: Scheduled to begin on Monday, April 19th. If a full load is picked up from a single property, the owner will be charged $120.
Announcements & Expenditures
Lyme Disease Vaccinations: Highway Department employees and the Highway Superintendent were authorized to receive a three-series Lyme disease preventative vaccine through Partners in Safety at a cost of $185 per person.
Conference Attendance: The Board approved travel costs for the Building Inspector to attend a conference in Fishkill ($170) and the Town Clerk to attend a conference in Syracuse (not to exceed $750).
Tour de Goshen: The Board consented to the use of town roads for the 12th Annual Bike Tour scheduled for August 15, 1999.
Mobile Congressional Unit: Supervisor Robert Jankowski announced that Congresswoman Sue Kelly (or a representative) would host a mobile unit at the Town Hall on April 21st from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
