The 133rd Bull Family Reunion
The Gathering: Hundreds of descendants of William Bull and Sarah Wells gathered at the historic 1722 Bull Stone House in Hamptonburgh for their 133rd annual picnic.
Historical Significance: Sarah Wells was an orphan who, at age 18, was the first to settle a 150,000-acre wilderness tract in May 1712. Her husband, William Bull, was an English stonemason.
Tradition: The annual family reunions began shortly after the Civil War. During the event, descendants demonstrated traditional skills, including tool sharpening, corn husk doll making, and tomahawk throwing.
The Bull Family Quilt
Presentation: Sharon Semonovich and her husband, Ken, are pictured displaying the Bull Family quilt at the reunion.
Creation: Family members from all over the country sewed individual blocks and sent them to Sharon, who assembled them.
Design: The quilt features 16 blocks, 11 of which depict the Bull family home and 5 of which depict the family barn.
Future Project: Sharon is planning another family quilt that will feature 2,000 signatures of Bull descendants.
