Scope and Content

1. Board Meeting Report (Handwritten Date: Jan 20, 2009) Topic: The January 10th board meeting of the William Bull and Sarah Wells Stone House Association. Key Details: Michael Hughes of Cornerstone Restoration (New Windsor) presented ideas for using slate to replace the deteriorating roof of the historic New World Dutch Barn (built circa 1718). To help fund the project, Mr. Hughes suggested a sponsorship program where family, friends, and the general public can donate and decorate the underside of the slate tiles. Both the barn and the 1722 Bull Stone House (located on the Sarah Wells Trail in Hamptonburgh) are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 2. News from the Bull Stone House (Published: Tuesday, June 2, 2009) Topic: Local Girl Scout involvement and historic preservation. Key Details: Several Girl Scouts from the Goshen area visited the Bull Stone House in Campbell Hall to assist Michael Brown, the Resident and Caretaker. They helped bring a historic wedding dress—made by Sarah Wells for her daughter Margaret—out of winter storage. The girls (Amanda, Chelsea, Evelyn, Julia, Sophia, Jessica, and Domenica) also discussed their upcoming Girl Scout Gold and Silver Award projects. Photos accompanying the article show the Girl Scouts together, as well as Michael Brown, Evelyn, and Julia standing by the historic wedding dress display.
