Dear Father
I have consulted with Amos Moore as to the best course for me to pursue, and he thinks that the best thing I can do is to go to Iowa or Minnesota and look up some Government Land—near some Rail Road or village and try it, Vincent Booth of Hamptonburgh and Thomas Booth of Newburgh stopped here third day and spent the afternoon, they had been to G. B. Booth's Iowa and was on their way back, they said that there was several Roads, Road about to be laid out there at Bellevue to run to different parts of the State. Amos thinks that I had better go out there, instead of going into the Mercantile business, although he and most of the people here thinks We might do well at that. But without he and I thinks it is safe I shall not attempt it. The man that owned the Goods that we thought of buying died a few weeks ago and his father-in-law will sell them for a certain per cent less than cost and give one or two years time for the payment thereof. We shall know his terms perhaps this week and if Amos & I think it is safe and best I will try it. If not I shall try and buy some Land. And would like for thee if convenient to send me a draft or check for some money, as much thee wishes to, or can spare, give my love to all the Family and oblige thy affectionate Son
