Fort Scott 8th Month 5th 1858 Dear Mother “The check” thee sent me, arrived safely; for which I am very much obliged, and would say that if thee could conveniently, I would like for thee to send the other one thee mentioned thee would, if I thought best. The difficulties appear to be over and think there is an opportunity to make good investments. The Town in which I am interested I think will soon be made the County seat—if so my interest in it will be quite valuable, and money invested in it and on my claim cannot fail to bring some reward. Except my love, and rest assured, that I will come home as soon practicable. Thy affectionate Son Charlie
