Petition for a Public Road (May 21st, 1803)
To the Commissioners of Roads for the Towns of Wallkill & Goshen in the County of Orange and State of New York. Whereas It is the opinion of a number of the inhabitants in the North east corner of Goshen, and of those in Wall-kill adjoining thereto, that it would be for the publick good, and benefit, that a publick Road be laid out, and opened from Goshen to Wall-kill Afforesaid, that is to say, to begin, or start from the Main Road, leading from Goshen, to New-Windsor, a few Rods west of Jonathan Sayre’s house, thence Runing the most direct, and best course through the said Jonathan Sayre’s Land, and part of Widow Jane Tuthill’s farm, to Alexander McVeigh’s House, (or as near thereto as shall be thought best and most convenient,) from thence, north easterly the most convenient and best way, till it meets, or intersects the Cross Road leading from Caleb Smith’s Tavern in Hamptonburgh, to Campbell Hall. In Testimony whereof we, Freeholders, Inhabitants of the Towns afforesaid hereunto set our hands, this 21st Day of May 1803.
