Dr. Bartow Wright-
Goshen, N.Y.
Dear Uncle: You will recollect- the deed, discovered
on record in Buffalo, of which I informed you when
I last saw you in Goshen. It is probable that- the
original deed was handed to Mrs. Bull, and that-
if found it will be found among her papers. Your
son Wm. B. Wright was her executor- and his wife has
perhaps all of his papers that- have been preserved.
You probably know whether any search for this deed
has been made by or on behalf of the Buffalo people.
It is not of course for their interest- to find it among
Grandma's papers, but I cannot think that they would
wish to conceal the fact, if it were found among them. Your
own sense of justice will lead you to see that- in this
contest we must all stand on the facts as they are and
that it can in no way harm me or my brothers to have
every thing brought to light- that will advance the truth.
I do not wish you to take sides with me, I expect to make
my case at the proper time, but if you have any knowledge
of the original deed being in existence, or of the place in
which it was found and by whom, you should I think
inform me. Also, if no search for it, has been made
to your knowledge, you should also inform me of that-
fact. It is not- I who have refused all offers of
compromise, which you suggested as the proper method
of settling family differences, I have always been
willing to talk fairly and reasonably but- my
expressions of willingness have been repelled. If you
know from recollection any thing about this agreement
between my father and mother, it will aid matters if
you would let me know just- what testimony you
can give. I wish to make every effort to find this
deed whether the result is favorable to me or not,
and therefore write to you as one among others likely
to know something about it.
Very truly yours
Wm. B. Greene
