Dear Sister Annie
Sarah’s very acceptable letter was duly received, and Samuel will answer in time is writing to the “Toledians” to night—received a letter from them last week, all well but Jenny she has the “[shakes?]” yet. We are well, Phebe has recovered & yesterday had her tooth extracted, I trust she can [have?] [some?] comfort now, she has been rather [miserable?] ever since she came down—it was [an?] [ulcerated?] tooth. Mary Schwerin is very ill, her Mother is with her. Why Annie, how we will all love Henry if his medicine cures Mother’s cough hope it continues better. Please keep us posted about Daniel for we will want to be in readiness as we expect them here on their bridal “tour”. Cornelia Pierson and the Widow Weller called here sixth day the widow looked as handsome as a picture. I have not seen any of the Jersey folks but Ed since thee left, Julia has been to Staten Island came home sick with the Neuralgia in her face I intend visiting there to morrow weather permitting have not been out but little since thee left, have not been to New York. have frozen heel & toes, think I froze them the day we went to Howes.
Did “Susan” arrive safe at the Stone House? Does thee like the story? I did not. We are not satisfied with thy visit, it was not half long enough. Has thee seen or heard from Nancy since? now tell us all about it. Does thee know whether the Crystal Palace is open now? have not seen or heard from any of Uncle John’s folks since thee left & was in hopes Hannah would make us a visit – There are cries of Fire! Fire! in the street it is on this side of the street down by [the garage?] is very cold and a strong wind blowing the [sparks?] like a [?] towards us. it is an awful [?], on [the] block below us. you may [depend we?] have been somewhat frightened. Phebe cut quite a fuss. Samuel has just come from the fire thinks it will be subdued in a short time there are pieces of wood burning on our sidewalk blown from the fire. I cannot think of any more to write now – Samuel joins me in love to
all & all enquiries. Please answer soon. Have not heard anything from the Pacific yet.
Thine aff. Sister AnnaRelationships
