Mr. Henry R. Bull
Campbell Hall
New York
Dear Mr. Bull:
Enclosed you will find a brochure "The First
Butter Factory" and a yellow sheet "New York Celebrates
Founding of First Butter Factory." I think one or both
of these pieces of literature have been seen by some of
you. We greatly appriciate your part in making this
"First Butter Factory" project a success.
The committee of the Cornell Dairy Science
Association that is planning the program will meet to-
morrow. Shortly, therefore, the program will be known.
This is certain, Jared VanWagenen of Lawyersville will
be the speaker. He taught buttermaking at Cornell
University 60 years ago.
This letter is going to the persons listed
under "Local Historic Contributors" in the brochure.
Sincerely,
[Signature: E. S. Guthrie]

NEW YORK CELEBRATES FOUNDING OF FIRST BUTTER FACTORY
THE FIRST BUTTER FACTORY IN THE UNITED STATES was founded by W. R.
Woodhull, Campbell Hall, N. Y. in 1856. A ceremony commemorating the centennial
anniversary of this important event will take place in the park of the
Presbyterian church, Campbell Hall on Friday, October 26, at eleven o'clock.
Dinner will be served.
A State Historic Marker that points to the spot, where the creamery
stood has been planted on State Highway 207. Near the spring, the site of the
butter factory, a boulder monument will be set which will be marked with a
plaque bearing the following words:
This SPRING, with an abundance of
cool water, determined the site of the
first butter factory in the United States

You are invited to pay tribute, in person, to the butter industry
that was established only 100 years ago and which now utilizes about 25% of the
entire milk supply of this country.
Campbell Hall is about 5 miles east of Goshen. You, who are planning
to go to the exposition of the Dairy Industries Supply Association, and attend
the conventions at Atlantic City, come to Campbell Hall on your way.
Note: The Cornell Dairy Science Association has been active in
celebrating the centennial anniversary of the founding of the first creamery in
the unique way of an exhibit picturing the first butter factory at Farm and Home
Week at Cornell University in March, and at the New York State Fair in September.
This ceremony at Campbell Hall on October 26 is the final step in the celebration.
