Dear Charlotte:
I enclose copy of deed, Samuel Bull to Hamptonburgh School Company, also deed effecting title to the old church property.
I spent an entire afternoon getting such meager history as I have found. I wrote Robert Jackson. He replied that he had found no deed of the property to the school district when he searched title to the Bull property.
If a search were made of this property against the names of the various persons who owned the Stone House at one time, something might show relating to the school house property as conveyances are not generally made to a school district alone but to a trustee. This may have happened in this case and the indices would show the name of an individual. It would be necessary to look at every deed out of the Stone House to see if the individual took it as a trustee of the school district.
The difficulty with making this search is that it would be necessary to look through all the deeds of conveyance against the letter "B" back of the year 1869. Of course, after this date the indices were changed so that the first three letters of a man's name are indexed and it is not necessary to go over a mess of names which have no connection.
If you have the time, I would be glad to meet you at the County Clerk's office in Goshen and set you to work making this search, if you think this is necessary.
Very truly yours,
[Signature: Henry P. Bull] (C.)
