Dear Aunt Lillian,
I was very pleased to receive your letter today and also the enclosure. The New York Library has a rather good genealogy section on the East of the country. They also have quite a bit on the West, but nothing concerning the rest of the country. Of course, the books on the East is rather scattered. I don’t believe they have a copy of the Genealogical and Family History of Southern New York and the Hudson River Valley. They do have a copy of the “Hengie: Colonial Families of U.S.A.” That is where I have gotten most of my information on the Waits, Beals, etc. However, that was published about 50 or more years ago. I remember that they had a good account of Eliza Wait. I have the information books to Samuel Wait and Mary Wait. If you have it possible to check that I would appreciate it. I have a list of the birth dates of Thomas Wait & Mary Ward’s children, but only a few dates of their marriages and deaths or where they lived. My mother has told me the names of most of their children, but did not know anything else about them. I guess that you and George Wait are probably the only ones still alive that I have met. I have written on the births, marriages, and deaths of my Waits. Probably Waits, whose I am sorry to hear of Seidel’s death. You mentioned that her sons William and Richard Beal are still living. In the Hengie books I noticed that she had some other children. I wondered if they were still alive as well as her husband. Since her name is John Beal and you are also a Beal I am wondering if you are related to the Ann Beal that married William Egan and was the daughter of Wm. Beal and Sarah Walsh.
I was interested to know that you are now living next door to your old home. I am glad that you are able to do a lot of D.A.R. work etc. as I know that can keep you busy and you have enjoyed doing that type of work. My wife has a great aunt that was here over the week end and I believe that she has finally retired from her job and is just doing genealogy work. She was going to look up some things in Nashville this week. She usually goes to the State Library in Nashville where she lives. They have much more information at Nashville. My Mother and Mamie live in Smyrna. Mamie has been teaching there for twenty years now. They live about a half mile apart. Both Thomas and Carla sayer look a lot like the picture of their Uncle Wesley. Both of your children are enjoying their school vacation. They just finished swimming lessons. We hope to work a camping trip or two in this summer. It seems good to get out into the woods for a few days. The children watch that they had gotten some in already.
Sincerely,
Ted Sprague
I am enclosing a copy of the family forms that I am using so that you will know the types of information that I am interested in obtaining. I am also using a Pedigree chart put out by the Mormon firm that I am only using I found. It is from P.S. It lists the various mothers and fathers with their dates & places of birth, marriage, and death.
