Fort Scott June 3rd 1860
Dear Jac,
Thy very surprising letter has arrived and with it Father’s & Mothers pictures for which I am very much obliged I am very proud to know that I have such a handsome nephew and that the nephew and mother of said nephew are getting along so finely Thee can hardly expect a bachelor of my age to make as much fuss about a baby as a mother or grand
mother will yet I have no doubt of its being a remarkable child. Luc I suppose considers himself of much more importance in consequence of the all-absorbing event.
Jan I presume is being bored nearly to death - Mother thinks she is the only one of you all that knows anything about taking care of such things & I presume she is quite
right - We have just had a little rain - the first for nearly a year - water has become almost as scarce as money and very unpalatable at that - I wish I thee could if convenient send me Obbies likeness if not the rest his perhaps is the only one of you all that would be much changed I have just returned from Church took one of the Fort Scott belles there and back very carefully - got an invitation in the mean time to make an all day visit with her at one of our neighbors this week. Have all my old flames got married and if not is there
any left that would make me a good wife? for since your letter about the baby I have been thinking seriously of getting married. My love to all thyself and baby particularly - write
soon and let me know all about the baby
Uncle Charlie
