My Dear Brother & Sister Caleb, and myself, are at Mothers, not long since, visiting, at my Brothers, where, we, for the time, received the information, of the death, of your son, which, was startling news indeed, producing in my mind a feeling, of near sympathy, with, you, in the bereavement, a deprivation, painful, to all the family group, but, who, can feel the poignancy, of such grief, equally, with parents, particularly the mother, when, she, for the last, time, takes, a last, sad, look and imprints, the last, kiss, on those cold, and colorless, lips that, has so, often, sounded, a mothers, name, in tones, of sweetness but, are, now stilled in death, all, the love, and tenderness, that fills, a mothers, breast, is called forth, & while a thrill of mental agony, too deep, for utterance, touching, as with an electric, shock, every tender, cord, in the soul, until, there is, a general vibration, calling forth the prayerful, the silent exclamation, my child, my son, my dearly beloved, would to God, I, had died, for thee, - surely, there is, no fount of love, and tenderness, so deep, as that, within a mothers heart. We, had, been long, been anticipating, a visit from you, Sisters, and children, yes, through, the Autumn, when, the fine gifts, fruit, was, clustering, on the boughs, how, often have we - went, to your promised visit, with the hope, that you, too might partake, of the abundance of our delicious, and fine, ripe, fruit, but time passed on, and, you came not, Even the cause of your delay, we, heard not, until the sad, tidings, righteousness, and peace, and a joy, in the holy spirit. and now in conclusion, let me, entreat you, to mourn, not for the dead who are now in our view, in the bloom of time, a noble youth, full of promise, rather, look at home to his everlasting rest, ere the storms of life came on- subject to no more change, and is not the transition, strangely an absurd, but an awakening in reality - more, conspicuously, then conduct - -passing, away, passing, away! with much love to you all in which Caleb and Mother with the others join I am as ever your affectionate Brother Isaac [?] Hallock
but, as his faithful subjects, we, must watch, and pray, combating the evils, and designs of life, with the mind, of Him, & clothes with divine and better mourning, in much patience possessing our souls - he will be very gracious, us, into his holy presence with joy, asking and the - Holy Sceptre (in state of deep undulating, being known to him) saying what is thy petition, and what, is thy request, and it shall be granted thee to the half, of my Kingdom - for of what does his kingdom consist? sometimes feel the question to my own soul why an holy, union, between God, and man, and in the hearts of man, will he Establish it even that group That, the once, joyous, and happy, family, had become a broken band, no one of us, appeared to feel it, more, than dear, Lydia, she, formed so, strong, an attachment, for you all, and the friendly intercourse, she, found amongst you, had endeared you to her, by no ordinary ties, her heart is warm, and is capable of feelings, for others, woes, she, has often mentioned, since being with you, what, a home feeling, was prevalent, under, your hospitable roof - and how highly she, valued, such visits, which, is she, believes in - remembrance, by me, it would afford me much satisfaction, and we, more frequently, mingle together, how rapidly years, roll on without our, scarcely, perceiving their flight, and how soon we shall find, that, we, are near the close of the journey of life, oh, it makes, its, powerful, impress, on the mind, teaching us, the important lesson, to prize time, whilst, we, have it, as, that, which is past, never, can return, and, the moment, that is lost, is lost forever how important then, that, what, our hands find to do, that, we do it, with our, might, seeing there, is, no work, nor device, nor knowledge, or Wisdom, in the grave, whither, we, are hastening I, feel, yes, deeply feel, my own shortcomings, and, at times, the most ardent, desires, to be, entirely, redeemed, from the world, but, I, find, to my deep, humiliation, that, I, still, have the strong propensities, of human nature, to contend with, that, we, are all, in danger, of being overpowered by, but, there, is, a rallying point, then, is an Ark of Safety, if, we, are found worthy, to Enter, within, its, sacred precincts, we, need not fear, the storms, from without, though they roll, in, as a flood, or, temptation from within, as, this safe, dwelling place, is, above storms, and tempests, and we, may Enter, its, gates, with, thanksgiving, and its courts, with praise but, alas, for, poor, frail, sons, too many of us, are fearful, and unwilling at least, of believing, unwilling to bear the Cross, but this, will ever, continue, the true badge, of the spiritual traveler, without the cross, can, come the crown, of glass, with, fingers, the shield, of faith, or helmet of salvation - when, I, bring, to mind, dear Brother the days, of, our first acquaintance, when, I, was, at, life, and gayety, I, remember well, what, my feelings, were, in regard to thee, and how, near, then, wast, brought, also comparative strangers, to each other, since which, as time, has rolled on instead, of a diminution, the bond, of near union, sweet, fellowship, has grown, stronger, and stronger, and, I, can truly, add, equally, with thee, dear Anna, and when this feeling of love, and brotherly, kindness abounds, what, is rich, it, promotes, in families, neighborhoods, and to, the, total, extinction, of all enmity, or hostile, feelings where, love, to God, and love, to our, fellow creatures, abounds on Earth, we, in this, state, realize heaven, and, I, am, - often constrained, to acknowledge, in great abasement, of self, that, at times, I witness, an admission into, the new heaven wherein, dwelleth righteousness, and it, is an another, state, of being, enjoy a heaven, of & ineffable glory, no greater than, I, am at times favored with have faith, no more, but, I must check, myself, lest I reveal that, not lawful to be uttered, and when admitted in- -presence Chamber, of my King, not forget, that, this, is not my continual dwelling place, while cloathed with mortalityRelationships
