Description

Fort Scott. March 2nd/71. Dear Sam. I have neglected writing you for a long time. I can only hope you will excuse me. I have been very idle for two months so far as writing and business is concerned but when it comes to dancing or courting I have been the busiest man around I have had a terriffic set-to with a quite pretty girl from Mo. and I think succeeded better than I cared to and hardly know how to take it back. I expect to go R.R. Eng. very soon: the sooner the quicker and better for me Page 2 (2650A.jpg - Left Column) I got a letter from home, a few days since, Eb. was much better and I hope will soon be well. Times are what is called hard here. Taxes very high and money very scarce. How are you and Murphy fixed now? I hope you are all right. How is the Administration getting along and what show has the Riplicans in the next Presidential Campaign? I think if the Democratic party don't upset something very soon success is quite certain for them Grant of course is a failure nearly every body admits it. And I hope never to see so stupid a man in the Presidential Chair again How are the Pearsalls getting along? I presume every year Page 2 (2650A.jpg - Right Column) lessens their chances to marry in Geometrical proportion. Good girls they ought to have better luck. Tell me how all the people in Orange Co. are getting along. I hope they are all happy and doing well. How about Annie or Eb's getting married? Is there any prospects. Of Dan and Van there is no use asking its out of the question. My love to the Pearsalls and Anna trusting the Water Works are all right and that you will write me soon I am &c Bro' Charlie
