Page 1 TELEPHONE RECTOR 2-7040 CABLE ADDRESS "HUNTHILL. NEW YORK" HUNT, HILL & BETTS COUNSELLORS AT LAW-PROCTORS IN ADMIRALTY EQUITABLE BUILDING 120 BROADWAY NEW YORK. March 22, 1940 Mrs. Butler Whiting 128 Sutton Manor New Rochelle, N.Y. My dear Mrs. Whiting: Your recent letter to the Secretary of the Bull Family Association, has just reached me. I am much interested to know that you and Mrs. Wyeth have one sleeve of the wedding dress of Sarah Wells, and can assure you on behalf of the Association that your thought of giving it to the Association is greatly appreciated. In that connection, however, let me say that the Association does not have the rest of the dress. The dress is in the possession of a descendant, Miss Nina Brewster Tuthill, of Craigville, a little place a few miles from the Stone House. I did not know that one sleeve of the dress was missing. Of course the officers of the Association hope that some time the dress itself may come into the possession of the Association, which would seem to be the logical thing. However, Miss Tuthill greatly prizes it and what the ultimate disposition of it may be, of course depends upon her. I am sending a copy of your letter to me and of this reply to Miss Tuthill and also to Amy Bull Crist, of Montgomery, N.Y., R.D., the president of the Association. Inasmuch as your grandfather, Prof. Richard H. Bull, took so strong an interest in the Stone House and the family associations, it is very gratifying to know that you and your sister continue that feeling. Many years ago - it must be nearly twenty now - I called to see you when we were raising funds for the acquisition of the Stone House and I shall never forget the gracious way in which I was received by you and Mr. Whiting. I recall that at that time you had young children. I would greatly appreciate it if you would give me their present names and addresses. Recently certain restoration work has been done at the Stone House by Mr. Ernest M. Bull (of your line), and it is hoped that there may be a reception given at the house some Saturday in June to give the family an opportunity Page 2 Mrs. Butler Whiting -2- to see how attractive the place now is. I have always hoped that you and your sister might possibly be able to come to the picnic, but I appreciate that, like many others, you may be away in the latter part of August. Perhaps if a reception were held in June you and she, or one of you, might be able to get up to Goshen, which is not hard to reach from New Rochelle. I enclose to you herewith an account of last year's picnic.
