Scope and Content

bass bat winged hardware, 18th C , ball foot value $750.00 in showcase 1952 Picnic notice Significant Gifts: The Association received a mahogany box that originally belonged to matriarch Sarah Wells, brought from England. It was donated by the estate of Louise Terbell Libenow. GIFTS 1952 Picnic Notice A Box that Belonged to Sarah Wells Louise Terbell Libenow of Oakville, California, who died on May 18, 1952, had a mahogany box which was given to her by her grandmother Hilah Bodine Terbell, who said on the authority of her mother Mary Eager Bodine, that it had been brought by Sarah Wells from England. Mary Eager Bodine was a daughter of Ann Bull Eager and was born in 1774, over 20 years before the death of her grandmother, Sarah Wells Bull (then Miller) in 1796. There can, therefore, be no reason to doubt the accuracy of this family tradition. Before her death last May, Mrs. Libenow authorized her son Lieut. Comdr. Forrest K. Libenow, U.S.N. (Ret.) of Oakville, California, to present this box to our Association. He has arranged to have a little plate made and attached to the box stating its origin and it will be on view at the picnic. This is a priceless gift which the Association will keep in memory of Mrs. Libenow.
