Description

HQL / w04635 Coverlet White with white puckered embroidered design. White fringe. From Sugden sale in Orland. Gift of Roland Howard Oct 1981. Crossfiled R. H. T-shaped whitework embroidered bed cover, worked with white cotton yarns on a white cotton background with a tufted stitch, creating a highly textured textile. (Commonly called "candlewicking" today.) The embroidery pattern features a central basket design with a pineapple, surrounded by vines with grapes and tulip-like flowers. The bed cover is edged on three sides (all except top) with plain white cotton fringe. The backing fabric is plain white cotton, pieced of three lengths (thus two seams); the width of the fabric is 32/4 inches. One area in the vicinity of a cut-out is also pieced. The cut-outs measure 24: L x 2t6" W. lzb, 10/24/07 Candlewick bedspread, also referred to as tufted or knotted
