Top to dress. Black taffeta trimmed with black satin. Crochet covered buttons. Short over sides - longer tail in back.

Woman's dress bodice, made of black silk faille. The bodice has a round neckline that is piped, and a dropped shoulderline. The long sleeves are cut in the coat style, but have a side flounce stitched above the wrist. The wrist opening and this flounce are trimmed with bias bands of black satin. The same trimming is used on the bodice front, back, and bottom edges.
The center front opening fastens with nine crocheted thread-covered buttons. The center front dips at the waistline; this extension has square corners. The center back extends in a deep tab topped by a self-fabric ruffle to hang over a bustle. The lining fabric is tan, twill-woven cotton. The armscyes are piped. Written in ink directly on the lining of the right front near the neck is: "Hcd '69 / Devereux."Interpretative Labels
