Description

w01179 Sun hat or cap. Loaned by Roland M. Howard; Woman's blond horsehair bonnet. Made of strips of woven horsehair hand stitched together, the bonnet has the "spoon" brim shape of the 1860s. The crown is rounded. The front corners dip low on either side of the chin. The neck edge is stitched with a strip of braided straw; there are the remnants of two labels, one paper and one fabric, stitched on top of the straw. They give the numbers "514" and "201."
