[I recall being told a story (and my memory may be faulty) that this crane had been removed from its place years ago by a workman as a wall was built in front of the hearth, and then when word spread of the Perkins House being moved a woman (related to the workman?) came forward and said something to the effect of "If you're going to rebuild the house, you're going to want this," bja, 3/29/2007]
