Three pieces - muff, skirt and waist to match.
Muff - black velvet trimmed in satin ribbon bow, beads, and lace. Lined in light satin.
Skirt - Brown satin, all over pattern in black and black dots, black velvet at bottom, bead trim at waistline and hemline--lined with black taffeta.
Waist - Black velvet, leg - o - mutton sleeves finished with three buttons at wrists, trim on front like skirt edged with bead trim, sheer pink center front, high black band at neck. Lined in black taffeta - stays all around.

Woman's two-piece dress consisting of a bodice and skirt, along with a matching muff. The bodice and skirt are made of black velvet and brownish-mauve satin woven with a design of meandering black ribbons and dots. The bodice, which is made mostly of the velvet, has a standing collar and large leg-o'-mutton sleeves, which are closely pleated into the shoulder. The bodice front has panels of the figured satin on each side of the center front opening. These panels are trimmed with black beaded edging. The bodice fastens with hooks and eyes on a panel of flesh-colored silk, hidden under a gathering of sheer, pale pink crepe. The bodice is closely fitted, and all of the seams are boned. A black grosgrain petersham around the waistline is woven with the name of the department store (probably) where the dress was purchased: "L. R. Hollander & Co. / BOSTON." Black silk lines the bodice. Stitched inside the lower right front of the opening is a handwritten label" Hcd '73 / B. Glidden."
The skirt is made of the figured satin, with a bias-cut flounce of the velvet around the bottom; the flounce is headed by a trimming of black beaded braid. The waist of the skirt is also trimmed with a wider applique of black beads, with fringe. The front of the skirt is smooth, while the back is gathered on either side of the center back opening. The same black silk used for the bodice lining is used for the skirt lining.
The muff is made of the black velvet, and is constructed with a wide, two-tiered ruffle around each opening. The top tier of the ruffle is made of the velvet, edged with black beaded braid, and the lower tier, which is wider than the velvet tier, is made of black machine-made lace. A black satin bow decorates the top of the muff. The lining is ecru silk satin over white wool wadding. lzbInterpretative Labels
