Description

Hcab / w01212 Purse: beaded, lined with maroon silk. Top is maroon silk, draw-string same color. Material & beadwork excellent condition except on sides. Roland Howard bequest Aug. 1988; Drawstring bag, called a "reticule" in the period, made of knitted beads. The bead design features a village scene with trees and multi-colored buildings above a band of stylized blue flowers in a vine on a dark red background. The edges of the different bands of design are worked in zig zags; the bottom band is a zig zag of two tones of green beads. The top and lining of the purse have been replaced with a more recent brick red silk; the drawstring of silk cord in a matching color is also a replacement.
