Silk Shawl
Cream color with gold. Intricate work.

Woman's shawl of cream-colored silk taffeta, with a band of cream and gold silk embroidery, and elaborate, heavy, knotted fringe of crinkled silk threads. The shawl folds over, so that the band of embroidery lays over the taffeta and produces two tiers of the fringe. The embroidered band is deepest in the center and tapers to the ends; the edges are scalloped. It is filled with very fine embroidery of realistic flowers, worked in chain and satin stitches, and French knots. In the openings between the knots of the fringe header are balls made of the silk threads, resembling hops in their form., lzb, 4/29/08.Interpretative Labels
