Description

HFD / w04387 Sheraton sideboard. Gift of Ruth Kirkland, whose son was a direct descendant of the Perkins family. 1978 Given to Dorothy Little (grandneice of John & Phebe Perkins, grandaughter of Joseph Perkins) in 1821 when she married Joseph Lowe Stevens - a Castine doctor. They lived in the Mason Shaw house on Main Street (built 1805 for Mason Shaw, justice of the peace when Castine was Shiretown). Sideboard may have belonged to Dorothy Little's mother (born June 17, 1779, daughter of Joseph & Phebe Perkins). American Sheraton mahogany bow front sideboard with four front reeded legs, brass rosette pulls. Figured mahogany with satinwood inlays. One wide and 2 narrow drawers over 2 and cabinets flanked by two bottle drawers, central double door cabinet. Pine secondaries. Refinished, top re-veneered. c. 1820-25, 62" l x 26" d x 41 1/2 " h.
