Name/Title
H.C. Murray Co. Lace Handkerchief c1900Entry/Object ID
2024.46.1Description
This 11" handkerchief with a wide lace border is lightly stained with age but was originally white. It came wrapped in tissue paper in an aged white box from H.C. Murray Co. which was a "Boston" or department store in Willimantic, CT in the early 1900s. It was typical for a woman to carry such a handkerchief for delicately dabbing at her eyes at a wedding, for example. It is notably smaller and less durable than the typical mens' handkerchief which was 18" across and with no border.Collection
