A Mauchline ware pin cushion. Mauchline ware was very popular in the mid to late 19th century, and fell out of fashion in the early 20th century. From goldingyoung.com, "Usually made from sycamore, the early decoration was transferred on and the later pieces used actual photographic prints which advertised areas, generally in Scotland but elsewhere, basically as tourist pieces with transfers of coastal towns and land marks proving popular as were famous buildings and places associated with Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott." Mauchline ware generally takes the form of sewing notions and snuff boxes but can also be found on other various vessels. This piece features an etching of the "Armenia White."Collection
