Ration Book Holder for the Way family 1942-45Entry/Object ID
2024.63.1Description
A light brown laminated paper booklet with book cloth binding, issued by the US government to hold the various food ration books needed by families during WWII. On the front in blue ink is written the name of the holder, Mrs. Francis Way, along with her address which is mostly illegible. The booklet shows creasing and tearing around the edges but the dark brown writing on the front, "Ration Book Holder/(Household)/...V-" is still visible.Context
Booklets such as these were given out throughout WWII to hold ration books, one for each member of the family, which contained stamps to be used to purchase food goods. This made sure everyone had the same access to various foods, regardless of how much money they had.Collection
