Wooden Ladder

Florimond Bergeron's Ladder: The image depicts a weathered, rustic wooden ladder leaning against a textured brick wall, painted in a warm shade of orange. The ladder, with its simple, sturdy rungs, casts subtle shadows on the bricks, highlighting the wall’s uneven surface and the play of light. This composition draws attention to the craftsmanship of the ladder and the aged character of the bricks, suggesting an atmosphere of nostalgia or vintage charm. The earthy tones create a harmonious visual effect, evoking a sense of history and timelessness.

Wooden ladder. Eight rungs.

Context

According to the donor, Giacomo (Jack) Guarnaccia, this ladder was once located in one of the now-demolished factory buildings on Valley Street in Willimantic, leading to an upper floor. The donor's family owned the building. Space on the upper floor had at one time been leased to Florimond Joseph Bergeron (1898-1964), Mayor of Willimantic 1950-57. The donor recalled as a boy seeing Bergeron, a tall, heavyset man weighing in excess of 250 pounds, climb the ladder, which bowed under his weight.
