Woven hooked rug. The eagle and shield hooked rug with WBI at the bottom is a rug Mary Louise Steen Isbell of Darien, CT, hooked for her son, William Burton Isbell, who fought in the army in World War II. He was stationed in North Africa, where he fought against Rommel's Afrika Korps. She created one of these rugs for her two sons who came home from the war. (Her third son, Laurence Harvey Isbell, was a submariner who died in the Pacific.) She drew the pattern on Burlap and used wool strips cut from fabric scraps to create the design.Collection
