Merino Wool Company Display BoardsEntry/Object ID
2025.6.1Description
Two display boards used by the Merino Wool Corporation in the sale of merino wool to prospective buyers in the textile industry. These tri-fold boards are leather on the outside and soft and textured on the inside, allowing the display of roving samples. One board contains one such sample, having been spread across the board over years of being moved. Also on the inside is a card indicating the various grades of wool and the government standards for each. The standards shown were set in 1968 and are still used today in the wool industry to classify wool based on a variety of metrics including the width and density of the fibers. The tri-fold, along with a large, folding wooden table was donated to the Museum shortly after J. A. Atwood III passed away by a friend, in whose care he had left them with instructions to donate them to the Mill Museum.Use
J. A. Atwood III, the last owner of the Wauregan Mills in Plainfield, CT, used the tri-fold and table to display the company's wares at trade shows.Collection
