2023.12.3Description
Trade card distributed by N. H. Twist, photographer, Main Street opposite the Opera House, Willimantic, CT, c. 1884. The front of the card reads: N. H. Twist, Photographer, Main St. Opp. Opera House, WILLIMANTIC. Back is blank, but handwritten in pencil is: Edith, Birthday present, Aug. 23 1884, Charley. There is no mention of Twist in the 1885 Willimantic Street Directory. The only photographers listed in the directory that year were Charles Ross and Charles H. Townshend, neither of whom had studios opposite the Loomer Opera House. Townshend was in the Basset's Block building at what was then the corner of Main and Railroad Streets, across from the Murray Block. The Basset Block was demolished in the 1970s, and the Advertiser building now occupies the space.Collection
