War Ration Book Four, issued from the OPA to Francis and Isabel Way. The name and address of the holder is handwritten in black on the front, as well as "End of Rationing Oct 1945/ except sugar" at the bottom. These are folded beige cardstock with sheets of stamps inside in various states of use. They are mostly full. Isabel's book has a straight pin stuck into the front cover.Context
Ration books were issued to families and individuals during WWII to make sure people could get the groceries they needed, which were scarce, regardless of the amount of money they had. The stamps themselves were in sheet form, perforated individually, and color coded based on what they could be used to purchase. This is the last of the ration books issued during the war, though the rationing of sugar continued until 1947.Collection
