Nylon Hose Rescue and Repair Kit c.1920s

Name/Title

Nylon Hose Rescue and Repair Kit c.1920s

Entry/Object ID

2025.104.2

Description

A matchbook style nylon hose rescue and repair kit. The front of the book promotes Jordan Hardware Co. of Willimantic, CT, and the back and inside cover promote Devoe Mirrolac Enamel. Behind the sticks are written instructions on their use.

Use

The end of each of the "matchsticks" is coated with a water-activated "run arrestor" which would be applied to both ends of a run in a pair of stockings to keep it from spreading. Once stopped, the run could be repaired, potentially using the range of light-skinned nude colored thread also included in the kit, and then the arrestor washed out.
