Description

Handwritten on the print in white is "Camp 1st Connecticut Infantry Nogales Ariz August 1916" The First Connecticut Infantry, part of the National Guard, was sent by then President Wilson to the Mexican border at Nogales, Arizona as part of the "Mexican Punitive Expedition." This measure was a part of the National Defense act of 1916 which was passed in response to revolutionary Mexicans conducting a raid on a New Mexico town. The First Connecticut did not go into Mexico but stayed at the border doing training exercises.
