2025.101.2Description
A box of thread from the John C. Meyer Thread Company. The company was founded in 1876 by John C. Meyer in Lowell, MA, though eventually they also operated out of Boston, MA. The company manufactured threads of various kinds, including a silk finish thread widely used in shoe and other leather stitching. The lid of the box reads" Meyer Thread/leads in/Quality, Strength, and Finish" then shows an engraving of the mills in Lowell, MA with the quote "'Best In The World'". The bottom reads "Established 1876/Blac, White, and Colors/Warranted Full Measure/John C. Meyer Thread Co./ The Lowell Thread Mills/Lowell, Mass., U.S.A." The end of the box called this brand "Uncle John's Thread," indicates 75 yards per spool, and one dozen spools per box, though this box only contains three spools. The spools are wooden and "John C. Meyer Thread Co. Lowell, Mass." on one end and "Uncle Johns/75 yards/carpet/button/best in the world" on the other. The box and spools are a little stained but otherwise in good condition.Collection
