Description

A sample book for Rice's sewing and buttonhole silk. The book opens up into a two page spread of the offerings for thread boxes and cabinets for storage and display. Those pages then open to reveal a five page display with an additional flap on the right side showing a number of thread samples, glued into columns. The A.H. Rice Company was founded in 1876 in Pittsfield, MA, and was in operation until 2006. The silk mill also produced other silk products, such as parachutes.

Sample books like these would have been shown to prospective buyers so they could see the offered selection and pick which colors they wanted to purchase.
