Description

A field dressing issued to John E. Champe during World War 2 which he carried in the European theater. Field dressings are intended to dress wounds "in the field" before a soldier can be brought to appropriate medical facilities. It features a gauze pad and band to tie it to the wound. The dressing is kept inside the waterproof wrapping (shown) until it is needed. The black waterproof package reads as follows: PACKET FIRST-AID FIELD BROWN DRESSING U.S. ARMEY CARLISLE MODEL DYED STERILIZED DRESSING RED COLOR INDICATES BACK OF DRESSING PUT OTHER SIDE NEXT TO WOUND GUILD FOUNDATIONS, NEW YORK, N.Y.
