Pressboard Fire BucketEntry/Object ID
2024.29.1Description
A pressboard fire bucket with rounded bottom and metal brackets for a handle (not included). Stenciling on the front says "For Fire Only." Buckets such as this were used to transport water to a fire in case of emergency. They were used by fire brigades but were also kept in people's homes and businesses. The origin of the rounded bottom is a subject of debate but most likely it was intended to aid in tipping the bucket over when full of water. The bucket is damaged at the rim and scratched all over.Collection
