2022.2.138Description
Copy of black and white photographic print of Willimantic, CT, viewed from the south. The Oaks worker housing (single-family cottages) is in the foreground. The cottages' privies are shown, indicating that the photo was taken before the the installation of sewer lines in the 1890s. The cottages were constructed by the Willimantic Linen Company in 1880. The photo is captioned, and so appears to have been copied from a publication. The captions read "View of Willimantic, Conn.," "Forbes Albertype," and "Boston." The Forbes Albertype Co. was located in Boston, MA, and flourished between 1856 and 1901, specializing in both albertype photographic prints and lithographs, in the form of art prints, maps, guidebooks, and trade cards. This photographic print is probably from c. 1881, a peak year for the Forbes Company.Photograph Details
