Description

A pencil box with a color illustration of children sitting on a log. Inside are a Servo fountain pen, a mechanical pencil with a container holding extra lead, and several slate pencils. Slate pencils were common in the later 19th century. The ones wrapped in an American flag pattern were manufactured to encourage patriotism, especially in the immigrants who were flooding into the country at the time.
