Scope and Content

Receipts and account books for Ellery Clark Pike of Mansfield, CT, 1863-1871. Pike was a silk thread salesman and an ancestor of the donor. Pike was born in Mansfield on 21 Nov. 1842, and died in Mansfield City (a village in the town of Mansfield) on 18 Oct. 1909; the cause of death was mitial regurgitation for several years. In 1865, he married Martha Jane Snow (1842-1926). Pike was a Civil War veteran; he enlisted in the Union Army in Sep. 1862 and mustered out in July 1863. Ellery and Martha had six children: Walter (1867-1915), Arthur (1867- ), Helen (1870-1957), Mabel (1872-1936), Herman (1875- ), and Bertha (1880-1965). Collection consists of two ring binders.
