Assorted sewing tools, from top to bottom:
Small awl or stiletto with wooden handle, used to punch eyelets in fabric or to hold fabric while going through a sewing machine to keep one's fingers away from the needle.
Small awl or stiletto with black wooden handle.
Seam ripper with black metal handle. Used for taking out finished seams, one edge rested under the surface of the fabric, usually against a table, while the other edge stuck out above the fabric. In between is a sharp edge which cut the stitches without cutting the fabric.
DYNO tracing wheel with green wooden handle. Used for marking patterns onto fabric. The fabric would be placed on a table, with carbon paper on top, and the paper pattern on top of that. The wheel would be rolled over the edges of the pattern, pushing down through the carbon paper and leaving marks on the fabric.
Wooden glove darner. Similar to an egg used to darn socks, the curved ends of this tool would be inserted into glove fingers to maintain their shape while they were being repaired.
Plastic and metal needle punch. The depth of the needle could be changed by intervals by squeezing the metal at the top of the punch and moving it to click into one of the six slots on the side of the case. The seventh slot at the top of the case held the needle tip safely inside for storage.
Crochet hook with large wooden handle. Aside from being used for crocheting, hooks like this might be used to pull drawstrings through garments or to weave in ends of thread.Collection
