Description

Reception Committee pin for the Windham Welcome Home Parade held on August 16th, 1919. From threadcity.us "The area’s WW1 veterans were officially welcomed home during Willimantic’s August 16, 1919 World War I Welcome Home Parade which was part of a daylong celebration that included a clambake, sporting contests, a dance at Lincoln Square and a military ball." The pin itself is metal with a laminated paper insert saying "RECEPTION COMMITTEE" printed in blue. The ribbon is about 5" long and features an illustration of an eagle holding olive branches over an emblem of the American flag. Behind the American flag are the flags of France (left) and England (right), below which are the flags of Italy (left) and Germany (right). Below these are the words "WINDHAM WELCOME HOME AUGUST 16 1919" printed in gold. The ribbon is heavily creased, torn, and fraying at the bottom. On the back is a white and blue sticker from the manufacturer, Whitehead and Hoag Co. of Newark, NJ. There is also a red stamp over the sticker, indicating that the ribbon is union made.
